This November, artist Jill Magid launches a new series of activations at Calder Gardens as the next commission in our Artists as Gardens series. Artists as Gardens invites contemporary artists, working across a wide range of disciplines, to think of their practice as a garden that changes with the seasons and other natural cycles.
Magid explores the tensions between individuals and institutions of authority, using seduction and intimacy to navigate systems of power over extended periods of time. Her work often unfolds like a love story, following institutional rules to the point of absurdity.
Her work With Full Consent, Jill Magid is on view at Calder Gardens for four days only, November 20 to 23. It is the first of several activations Magid will present here over the coming months. More about the project will be shared soon.

A book signing follows.
The Series
Artists as Gardens is a series that commissions established contemporary artists, working across a wide range of disciplines, to think of their practice as a garden that changes with the seasons and other natural cycles. Over an extended period of time, artists conceive a series of time-based programs such as performances, healing practices, screenings, workshops, and discursive events, working in collaboration with local communities. Just as gardens invite us to notice how nature transforms itself while responding to different seasons, these artists explore new and evolving ideas aligned with their own rhythms and cycles.
